It was originally built as the sleeper car Regal Lark (Car #901824) by the American Car and Foundry Company (ACF) in 1950. On December 5, 1973, Santa Fe renumbered the car to ATSF #66. On December 5, 1973, Santa Fe renumbered the car to ATSF #66. Following the 1995 merger forming the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, the car was renumbered to BN\/BNSF #66 on January 12, 1996. BNSF formally christened the car with its current geographic name, Cajon Pass, in July 1998.
